About The Arthur Murray Dance Center
The Arthur Murray story stretches all the way back to 1912, when our founder began teaching students out of the Grand Palace in New York City. Over the following few decades, he became a well-known authority releasing dance instruction books, articles, and recordings. As dancing grew into a major social activity throughout the country, Mr. Murray went on to open a number of different schools, and to work with the biggest names in Hollywood, both onscreen and off.
Even from those first lessons, the vision of Arthur Murray Dance Centers has always been to develop a school with proven teaching methods, and where people from all walks of life could learn to love dancing regardless of their level of skill or experience. Today, we continue that tradition around the country, with studios from coast to coast, each employing only the most skilled and qualified instructors, and using a curriculum that has grown since the days when our founder was teaching students one-on-one.
Whether you’re just learning to dance for the first time, or want to become an accomplished competitor, we would love to help you reach your goals.

Woodland Hills & Thousand Oaks
The Thousand Oaks & Woodland Hills studios are run by award-winning competitive dancers Robert and Christy Melgoza, a husband and wife team who have dedicated their lives to sharing the gift of dance with the world.
Christy’s connection to dance began before she was even born. Back in the 1950s her parents opened one of the very first Arthur Murray dance studios in the area, which inspired her to fulfill a lifelong passion for teaching others to embrace their inner dancer.
Robert discovered competitive dancing later in life. After leaving the corporate world at the age of 30 to dance full-time, he quickly rose amongst the ranks to become the Top Specialist Instructor for Arthur Murray Worldwide, and garnered several awards for business excellence within the organization.
In 2005, Robert and Christy became owners of two Arthur Murray Dance locations, one here in Woodland Hills, and another in Thousand Oaks. Based on their unique and combined experiences in the world of competitive dance, the Melgozas focused on bringing a fun, energized feel back into both dance schools, as well as reaching out to the local community. They have completely renovated and modernized both studios to create the perfect environment for dance instruction and the result has been a pair of studio locations where students of all backgrounds and skill levels feel comfortable and inspired to dance.
